COMING UP

Last year jeweller, Rebecca Ward and I were awarded a $40 000 Arts Qld grant to document the wallum swamp and create a collaborative body of work based around this.

The Wallum (Coastal lowland heath) are endangered but beautiful ecosystems often overlooked and threatened by encroaching pine plantations and residential ‘sea-change’ development.
We are working on two bodies of work.

This project also includes photographic and film documentation. We are working with documentary film maker Phoebe Hart of Hartflickr films for this part of Swamp Cartography.

As part of the collaborative process Rebecca and I are working with Canberra Glassworkers to develop a range of object incorporating lighting. Rebecca and I have travelled to Canberra to work in the Glassworkers studio with glass artist Kirstie Rea. We are going down there again in July to complete the final body of glasswork for the exhibition.

The exhibition period of this project begins late 2010 and runs throughout 2011/12. We are touring throughout Australia and offer a range of jewellery and ceramic workshops and public programs to accompany the exhibition.

We have started a blog following the collaboration.

You can find it at: Swamp Cartography

Here is another invitation........ I am in the "Teawares" show at the Jamfactory in Adelaide opening this Friday evening.

"Teawares
Selected Australian ceramic, metal and furniture designers
With a rich history of travel through trade, links to British imperialism, strong cultural significance through tea ceremonies and countless personal memories of grandmother’s scones and tea service, the enduring properties or tea have ensured its place as an important beverage within daily life. Tea is a fertile subject for investigation by writers and artists alike. Drawing on the real and the mythic, this stunning exhibition combines compelling contemporary tea wares in ceramic and metal in a setting of finely crafted furniture."

This August you can see a set of three wallum nests in the Noosa Travelling Scholarship exhibtion at the Noosa Regional Gallery.  I have been shortlisted for this $12000 prize, the announcement is on August the 6th.  Fingers crossed!
